Al Baleed Archaeological Park

This historical site is located in the city of Salalah, near a lagoon where you can see crane birds and herons amid the high grasses. You can also take a boat ride along the river should you so wish. The remains of a mosque and a palace that were built between the 12th and 16th centuries were found amongst the ruins uncovered here. The study of Arab texts dating back to this period has enabled experts to establish that Al Balid was a key player in the frankincense trade. The Queen of Sheba is believed to have been a visitor, and goods arriving from India and China also used to pass through this port. Furthermore, the site is just a stone's throw away from the Salalah Land of Frankincense Museum.
