Vos journées
After you arrive in Salalah, you are met and greeted, then transferred to your hotel.
The rest of the day is free to relax on the beach.
Today you explore the east of Salalah. Start in the Wilayat of Taqah, whose countryside keeps its original character, with large mountain areas left untouched.
Next is Sumhuram, the ancient port city that reigned 2,000 years ago as the guardian of the land of perfume.
Its ruins sit on a fortified hill next to Khor Rori creek, in Taqah, 30 km from Salalah.
Continue to Wadi Dirbat, with an amazing variety of plants, trees, birds and flowers. See its long cave, and enjoy fantastic views of the Dhofar coastline and the Indian Ocean from Jebel Samhan.
There are several shallow caves in the limestone hills on the northern side of the spring and pool.
Visit Ain Razat, the most important spring in Dhofar and once one of Salalah's main sources of water. Its water and several smaller springs flow into a long pool on the northern side of the car park, at the foot of the mountain.
A falaj carries the water all year, most strongly during the Kharif. It flows 7 km to Al Maamurah Palace, the Sultan's residence when he is in Salalah. Overnight at your hotel.
Today you explore the west of Salalah and the city itself. After breakfast, visit Mughsayl, a popular beach west of Salalah, to see its blowholes.
When the waves hit the rock, air and water are forced up through vents in the ground, almost like a fountain. The force is surprisingly strong, and it is great fun to watch.
Around the area you can see frankincense trees. Dhofar has known frankincense since time immemorial, and it appears in ancient history books.
Thousands of years ago, when frankincense was worth more than gold, it brought the region great wealth.
Then visit the grave of Nabi Ayub (the prophet Job), a tomb inside a mosque where he is said to be buried. Drive back to Salalah for a lunch break.
Your day ends with an orientation tour of Salalah, with visits to the Frankincense Souq and Al Baleed Museum. Then you are dropped back at the Hilton or a similar hotel.
Today is a full-day tour to the Rub Al Khali desert, the Empty Quarter.
Visit Shishr, the Lost City of Ubar, an important link on the frankincense trail. See some of the magnificent sand dunes of the Rub Al Khali.
Drive back to Salalah for the night at your hotel.
Enjoy breakfast before you leave.
You are then transferred to the airport to catch your flight.
