Dhofar is the southern province of Oman, known for its historical ruins and the incense trade, and it is the world's leading source of frankincense. Its monsoon (Khareef) climate, temperate vegetation and bird life make it one of the most beautiful provinces in Arabia, especially in the south-west. It is Oman's most fertile area.

This half-day trip takes you west of Salalah, across the Qara Mountains, which rise to between 900 and 1,200 m (3,000 to 4,000 feet).

  4. Continue to Mughsayl Beach, known for its blowholes, where the sea bursts up dramatically at regular intervals during high tide.

  5. Visit the Mughsayl and Salalah bird sanctuaries.
