Muscat is the capital of Oman and the seat of its government. The city lies on the Arabian Sea, near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, in the northeast of the country.
Al Sharqiyah borders Muscat to the east, Al Batinah to the west and Ad Dakhiliyah to the south.

Head to Muttrah Souk, known to locals as Al Dhalam Souk and one of the oldest souks in the Arab world.
Browse the merchants' goods: fish, frankincense, perfume oils, garments, daggers, gold, silver, spices and Omani pots.
Continue to the old town, passing Al Alam Palace, the Sultan's palace, and the twin forts of Mirani and Jalali.
