   Día 1

   Nizwa and Birkat al Mauz

   Pickup is between 08:00 and 08:30. Drive through the Hajar Mountains via Fanja, Sumail and Izk to Nizwa.

   Visit Nizwa Souk, where locals sell fish, meat, vegetables, pottery, jewellery, handicrafts and souvenirs. At the Friday cattle market, villagers from nearby come to sell donkeys, goats, cattle, sheep and chickens.

   Next to the souk stands Nizwa Fort, from the mid-17th century, with views over the ancient town and the surrounding mountains.

   Drive to Birkat al Mauz, an oasis at the edge of the Jebel Akhdar cliffs. Take a short walk around the old village, then through banana and date plantations.

   Drive up the mountain road to your hotel. Overnight at the Jebel Akhdar Hotel.

2. 2
   Día 2

   Rose gardens and return to Muscat

   In the morning, visit the Sultan's rose gardens. The terraces of the villages of Al Ain, Al Shiraijah and Al Aqur are covered in pink native roses, and the scent of rose water from the local distilleries fills the mountain air.

   Take a scenic walk of one and a half hours along the edge of the mountain and through villages, with views over the deep valley and the garden plantations.

   Drive back to Muscat.
