Wadi Darbat is one of Oman's beautiful places, 30 minutes from Salalah along the coastal highway. Some 7 km beyond Taqah, a picturesque cliff on the left turns into a spectacular waterfall during the Kharif.

The wadi carves its way through hills and highlands until it reaches Khawr Ruri, where it empties into the Arabian Sea.

This full-day tour also takes in Taqah Castle, the Darbat caves, the Tawi Atayr sinkhole and the Ain Hamran excavation site.

  1. Pickup is between 08:00 and 08:30. Drive east of Salalah to Taqah Castle, the fortified house of the Wali, and see typical Dhofari houses with carved doors.

  2. Continue through the mountain down to Wadi Darbat, where a lake falls over a 500-foot vertical drop.

  3. In the Darbat caves, see paintings and inscriptions.

  4. Enjoy a picnic lunch (optional).

  5. Then discover the Tawi Atayr sinkhole, 211 metres deep and 130 metres wide. It is a fine place for bird watching, known for the sound of singing birds.

  6. On the way back to Salalah, visit the Ain Hamran excavation site.

  7. Return to your ship or hotel.
