This package brings together a desert tour, wadis and turtle watching. You spend a night at a camp in the Wahiba Sands, visit the stunning Wadi Bani Khalid and swim into the cave at Wadi Shab.
At Ras Al Jinz you have the chance to watch turtles on the beach at night. Along the way you also see Fanja, Sur and the ancient city of Qalhat.
أيامك
Leave Muscat and head towards the desert. Stop at Fanja, the gateway to the Al Dakhiliyah region. Take photos of its castles, towers and old mud houses on the mountains overlooking the wadi.
Continue to the old town of Mudhairib for another photo stop. Then reach Ibra, one of the oldest cities in Oman and once a centre of trade, religion, education and art, and have lunch.
In the late afternoon, continue to your desert camp in the Wahiba Sands, whose enormous dunes reach up to 300 feet high. Your guide shows you his skill in handling these dunes.
Watch the desert sunset from the top of one of the big dunes.
Dinner is served at the camp. Relax around a campfire, then spend the night at the desert camp.
After breakfast, drive to the beautiful oasis of Wadi Bani Khalid in the Sharqiyah region. All year round, water flows from a natural spring at the top of the wadi, feeding its rich greenery.
Follow the water to its source, where it forms a series of deep pools at the narrow end of the wadi, and visit Moqal Cave.
Continue to Sur, the capital of the Sharqiyah region and the centre of traditional Omani dhows, where workshops build these boats in many forms. Visit the dhow factory, the castle and more.
Continue to Ras Al Hadd and check in. At night, your guide takes you on a guided tour of the beach inside the Turtle Sanctuary at Ras Al Jinz.
There is a good chance of seeing turtles come onto the beach to nest and lay their eggs. You may even see baby turtles hatching.
Overnight in Ras Al Hadd.
Drive towards Wadi Shab. The tour stops at the 16th-century tomb of Bibi Al-Din, built by his wife, Bibi Mariam, and at the site of ancient Qalhat.
Marco Polo described Qalhat, and a well-known Moroccan traveller visited it too. It was one of the more important cities in Oman and had maritime control over Hormuz.
Continue to Wadi Shab, lined with palm trees and banana plantations. A 45-minute coastal trek through the canyon brings you to clear pools for a swim. The water is warm most of the year.
At the last pool, swim through the keyhole, an opening among enormous rocks, into a cave with a small waterfall and turquoise water.
Make a short photo stop at the Bimah Sinkhole, where you can also swim, as the water is warm all year. Then drive back to Muscat.
